The books gets off to a great start and I want to read more. I'm ready to be wowed. Instead, I get bogged down with the illogical and overly wordy "science" that defies comprehension. I reread more than a few paragraphs more than a few times. Perhaps I'm not geeky enough. Still, I persevere and find myself on an uneven ride through a really good story idea that keeps falling flat on outcomes and consequences. The ending is disappointing, and could leave us with more to hold on to instead of being dull and discouraging.

But what really keeps me so critical is the LOUSY FORMATTING. There are places where "Odessa" comes out as "dessaO" and "notnow" has run together. "Faze" is printed as "phase." Too many sentences do not have an initial cap. Come on. I would hope the author also understands the use of paragraph breaks when there is a change in scene or in the passage of time and has simply fallen victim to e-book translation woes, but there were numerous instances where I stopped and shook my head and had to backtrack. No, no, no!

In all, the book was a great read in places, a miserable read in others, but I did want to see what happened anyway. Two stars though, for the reasons given.

I was looking for something after the Percy Jackson and Suzanne Collins books, Catching Fire and Mockingjay. Alex Detail's Revolution was a real surprise. I love Captain Odessa, she's one of my favorite characters. She doesn't let Alex Detail get away with anything. This book is also surprising because it answers questions about life and death. It's like an amazing adventure the "The Secret" hidden in the story.
This is a pretty good book. The story is compelling and is well written. It's adventurous with great Sci-Fi action. The ending isn't the best but all in all a very entertaining book.
To repeat what I said on the book jacket "Alex Detail's Revolution starts out as if Douglas Adams had decided to write Ender's Game. But what develops isn't cosmic lark as much as a riveting thriller that delves into examinations of time, space and, interestingly, the human capacity for faith - or the lack thereof."

I actually don't know what else to add to that. I loved this book, for the writing, for the writer's thinking and for the fact that it made me think -- all the while keeping me sucked into a killer story. I've been giving it out as gifts. You should, too!
As a woman in her mid-30s without any interest in sci-fi, Alex Detail wasn't the first book I'd normally pick up. But it came highly recommended and I'm open to anything different. Needless to say, I was awestruck by the imagination and the ability of Darren Campo's mind to take things places i would never even consider. Truly out-of-this-world, without sounding too punny, I hope(!). Campo has a gift of making his characters real, alive and quirky as humanly possible -- making a sci-fi book truly accessible and amazing, even for someone like me. It's a fantastic book - I might even say brilliant. I can't wait to read his next.

This was a pretty good sci-fi book. It kept me interested to keep reading the whole thing. But there are alot of unexplained parts that were never wrapped up by the end of the book. There is a sequal, so perhaps that will help out the story.

It's also strange, but the book feels like there should have been a prequel before it. The author explains a lot of background information to the story at the begining, and this could have been a completely seperate book.
I bought this book on a whim. Oddly enough, I had just read Ender's Game online because it's supposed to be a great classic. I have to admit it was. It is very apparent that the author had also read Ender's game, as this seems to be a modern version of it. The book is well written and the storyline is very captivating. When I read a good book like that, I always expect a big ending, but this book didn't offer a big ending unfortunately. It just sort of fizzled out. I still recommend this to anyone who is interested though, it's a very entertaining and thought inspiring story.

I bought the book because it was on the top of the sales list for SF on and it was on sale for $0.00. This makes no sense you say. They must have made it up on P&H. But actually, it was free shipping. So I ended up with a copy for free, shipped to my house.

In hindsight, the $0 cost explains the high sales ranking for SF category on . But it was very readable and a good story with one caveat. My paperback hums right along to page 228 and the very next page is 245. The missing 17 pages are in the midst of the deciding action and are quite a hole. I came back to to see if the catch was that I had to pay $5.95 for pages 229 to 244. I don't see that anybody else had the problem, but maybe so.

Anyway, enjoy the book.
